'I have one more day of freedom. For now, y'all keep it real, 'cause I will,' the rapper says upon learning that there's been fire at the court building where his sentencing was set to take place.
Lil Wayne is getting another day of freedom after a two-alarm fire broke out in the basement of the New York courthouse where he was to be sentenced on Tuesday, March 2. Hours after the learning that his sentencing was once again postponed, the rapper shared his thought over the delay through a clip he sent to MTV News.
Starting with footage of him stepping off a private jet, the clip follows him on his way to Manhattan for the sentencing. It captures the moment Weezy learned from his road manager E.I. about the fire at the court building. "There's been a fire in the court. I have one more day of freedom. For now, y'all keep it real, 'cause I will," he then said.
Continuing to express what he has in mind, the 27-year-old stated, "I'm ready. I'm all smiles." He added, "They can't break my strength. They can only lock me up physically. They can't lock up my mind. They can't lock up my heart. They can only take my time because the law allows them to. Time is precious, but love is life. So therefore in the end my love will prevail."
On the particular day Lil Wayne was scheduled to have his sentencing to a year behind bars, a fire broke out in the basement of Manhattan Criminal Court building. The Associated Press reported that the fire broke out at 10:29 AM ET, sending smoke through out the building and causing an evacuated at around 10:30 A.M. Though the fire was under control by noon, the building has been shut down for the rest of the day.
The "Lollipop" hitmaker was actually scheduled to be sentenced back on February 9. However, lawyer Stacey Richman informed Supreme Court Judge Charles Solomon at the time that the rapper would need to postpone his sentence because he suffers from a cracked tooth and was set to undergo surgery February 12 in Miami. Words are, his sentencing is now set for Wednesday, March 3.
