The 'Wizards of Waverly Place' star has been set as one of the leads in Tom Bezucha's young femme comedy, while 'Gossip Girl' beauty Leighton Meester is said to be in talks to join.
Disney star
Selena Gomez has added yet another film role into her resume. Variety reported that the Alex Russo of "Wizards of Waverly Place" has been cast in one of the three lead roles in Tom Bezucha's young femme comedy "
Monte Carlo".
Nicole Kidman was originally attached to star, but a rewrite from Bezucha and April Blair gives a younger spin to the story. The twist puts two of the characters in college and one just out of high school. Gomez will take on the youngest of the three.
While the 17-year-old actress has been added into the cast ensemble, Kidman who will serve as a producer along with Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan is rumored to have a supporting role in the project. Another actress possibly taking part in the movie is
Leighton Meester. The "Gossip Girl" star reportedly is in talks to join the cast.
Based on Jules Bass' book "Headhunters", "Monte Carlo" is adapted by Maria Maggenti and "
The Family Stone" director Tom Bezucha. It focuses on a group of American women who bail on a disappointing no-frills holiday in Paris and pose as wealthy women vacationing in Monaco. Production is set to start in May and will take place in Monaco, Budapest and Paris.
Although famed for her television works, Selena Gomez has several movie credits on her sleeves. The actress/singer has lent her voice in "
Horton Hears a Who!" and starred in "Another Cinderella Story" as well as "
Princess Protection Program". She will soon be seen taking on the part of Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby in "
Ramona and Beezus".
