After the driver who accused her of attacking him issued apology for involving police, the British supermodel says in a statement, 'I will not be held hostage to my past.'
Naomi Campbell's latest controversy involving a hired driver has taken a drastic turn. After previously being accused of attacking Miodrag Mejdina from the back seat of his black Cadillac Escalade, the British supermodel is pleased that the driver has issued an apology on Thursday, March 4 through his lawyer Earl Ward.
Denying any wrongdoing related to the incident, the 39-year-old released a statement of her own. "I was accused of unacceptable behavior towards a driver in New York," she stated. "I have worked very hard on correcting my previous wrongdoings and I will not be held hostage to my past. I try to treat everyone with respect and I am pleased the driver has apologized. I would like to put the last few days behind me and move on."
On Thursday, Mejdina confessed to the Associated Press that he "got angry and overreacted" when he told police he has been assaulted by Campbell with a cell phone. The 27-year-old driver said he regrets calling the police, adding "This whole thing has been blown out of proportion and I apologize to Ms. Campbell for causing that to happen." He decided not to press charges.
Naomi Campbell was accused of attacking Miodrag Mejdina on Tuesday, March 2. It was reported that the model became enraged with him after he refused to say whether her Russian boyfriend, Vlad Doronin, was cheating on her. She then allegedly hit him in the face using a cell phone. When he pulled over at East 58th Street and Second Avenue to inform police, she fled the scene.
