The list of candidates for the lead role in 'The First Avenger: Captain America' has reportedly been narrowed down to three actors and included Mike Vogel and Garrett Hedlund.
Big question mark still lingers around who will take the lead role in "The First Avenger: Captain America". Just hours after he was said to be the leading candidate for the part, "The Office" star
John Krasinski was reportedly out from the run as well as fellow candidate
Chace Crawford.
Chris Evans, in the meantime, was tossed into the mix.
Deadline Hollywood claimed that the Human Torch in the "
Fantastic Four" films is one of the three actors seriously considered for the role. His competitions are "
Cloverfield" star
Mike Vogel and "
Tron Legacy" actor
Garrett Hedlund. Still, it should be noted that Hedlund has not tested yet despite the fact that Marvel is very keen on bringing him in.
Earlier, Fox 411 has brought up to attention that John Krasinski is stepping closer and closer to wield the shield as Captain America. The publication cited a source as stating the actor "has screen tested 2 times so far. It's very likely that he will be the new Captain America. He is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week."
Should the story that John Krasinski is out from the contention holds some truth, he will join the other actors who have bowed out from the competition earlier. Scott Porter of "Friday Night Lights", Michael Cassidy of "Privileged and Patrick Flueger of "
Brothers" were no longer on the list.
"The First Avenger: Captain America" will follow the story of Army officer Steve Rogers. It will serve as the introduction of the superhero character before and during the second World War until he becomes the Avengers' leader. Joe Johnston will direct, and Kevin Feige will produce. The shooting is expected to start this summer with the aim of July 22, 2011 U.S. release.
