Dakota Fanning Says No to Music Career

Although she used her own vocals for some of the songs in 'The Runaways', the Cherie Currie depicter says she would faint if she has to perform on stage as herself.

Performing some of the songs in "The Runaways" doesn't necessarily make Dakota Fanning dreaming of being a real singer. In fact, the teen actress who made her break with a role as Sean Penn's on-screen daughter in "I Am Sam" has admitted that she has no plans to launch her music career.

"I never thought of myself as a singer," the 16-year-old confessed. The star of "Push" went to explain why she will only sing on the big screen. "I've always been kind of self-conscious about singing but I've realized if I'm playing a character I can do it because I kind of get to hide behind her a little bit," she said. "But just as Dakota Fanning, I would pass out."

Dakota will be seen portraying Cherie Currie, the lead singer of a '70s all-girl rock band, in "The Runaways". For the part, she has recorded four songs; "Cherry Bomb", "California Paradise", "Queens of Noise" and "Dead End Justice", which are included in the film's soundtrack. The last two songs hear her having a duet with co-star Kristen Stewart.

"The Runaways" is a biopic that will follow Joan Jett and Cherie Currie as they navigate a rocky road of touring and record label woes. They also have to deal with their abusive manager, all in while their teen years. Having been premiered at the 26th Sundance Film Festival on January 24, it will have its limited release in the U.S. on March 19 before going wide on April 9. Its soundtrack, in the meantime, will be released on March 23.
