In an interview at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival, the 'Stop-Loss' actor admits that he's indeed auditioning for the title character in 'The First Avenger: Captain America'.
Ryan Phillippe is indeed up for the title role in "The First Avenger: Captain America". Soon after HitFix brought up the news that he has been added into the list of contenders that include
Chris Evans,
Garrett Hedlund and Wilson Bethel, the Jonathan Preest of "
Franklyn" himself confirmed that he will audition for the part.
The former husband of actress
Reese Witherspoon admitted the matter to MTV News when met at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival on Monday, March 15. "[I] actually am going in to meet on 'Captain America,' which is kind of cool," the 35-year-old gushed. "After Superman, he was kind of my favorite."
Just days earlier, it was reported that Evans, Hedlund and Bethel are the top contenders left for the role.

"The First Avenger: Captain America" will follow the story of Army officer Steve Rogers. It will serve as the introduction of the superhero character before and during the second World War until he becomes the Avengers' leader. Joe Johnston will direct, and Kevin Feige will produce. The shooting is expected to start this summer with the aim of July 22, 2011 U.S. release.
Ryan Phillippe himself is known for his role as Sebastian Valmont in "Cruel Intentions" in addition to his part in "I Know What You Did Last Summer". He has since starred in a number of movies, including "
Crash", "
Flags of Our Fathers" and "
Stop-Loss". Next, he will be seen in "
MacGruber", which will hit U.S. theaters on May 21.
