More than 200 friends and family members attended the private 45-minute service held on Tuesday afternoon, March 16 in the former teen heartthrob's hometown of Toronto.
A private funeral ceremony for late actor Corey Haim has taken place on Tuesday afternoon, March 16. Toronto Star reported that over 200 friends and family members attended the 45-minute service held at Steeles Memorial Chapel, a Jewish funeral home in the '80s teen idol's hometown of Toronto.
Haim's former "Two Coreys" co-star and best friend, Corey Feldman, was noticeably absent from the service. On Monday, March 15, he announced that he would not be present at the funeral to respect Haim family's wishes to make it a "small, private affair." His second cousin, Maytal Kotler, on the other hand, came to pay last respect and said the service was "very sad but with a lot of laughter."
E! Online previously reported that Startifacts, a celebrity memorabilia site, has volunteered to donate $20,000 to cover costs such as transportation of the body and a headstone. While the service was paid for in part by the company, the money for the funeral came from an auction of Haim's belongings done by his family.
As report of Haim's funeral made the headlines, the recording of the frantic 911 call made by his mother Judy the morning he collapsed at her apartment came out. "I think my son is dead," Judy was heard informing the dispatcher. "He's not breathing. I'm alone with my son and I don't know what I'm doing."
Corey Haim passed away on Wednesday, March 10. The star of "The Lost Boys" was reportedly alive, but weak when emergency personnel arrived at his apartment building near Burbank, California. The paramedics then took him to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 A.M. His mother said that Los Angeles County Coroner has told her he died of pulmonary congestion.
