Shakira and John Legend are also included in the star-studded line-up for the concert scheduled to be held in Johannesburg a day before the opening match is set to take place.
Black Eyed Peas and
Alicia Keys will fly to South Africa in June to perform at 2010 World Cup concert. On Wednesday, March 17, FIFA revealed that the hip-hop group and the R 'n' B singer has been added to the performers line-up for the concert set to take place in Johannesburg on June 10, a day before the opening match.
BEP and Alicia are not the only international artists tapped for the special event.
Shakira and
John Legend also make the list. Meanwhile, local musicians booked to perform include folk singer Vusi Mahlasela, rock bands BLK JKS and The Parlotones, and Malian artists Amadou and Mariam.
"We are thrilled to have a concert of such magnitude and performing talent raise the curtain on the first FIFA World Cup in Africa," FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke gushed about the concert in a statement. "It is testament to the universal and unifying power of football and music, and will start the competition off on the right note - of celebration."
The three-hour show taking place at the newly renovated Orlando Stadium in the famous Johannesburg township of Soweto will be produced by Kevin Wall and feature appearances by past and present football legends. Proceeds will benefit 20 Centres for 2010, an official charity campaign offering health care services, education and soccer training for disadvantaged communities.
On June 11, South Africa will kick off the month-long tournament. The host nation will have a face-off against Mexico at the nearby Soccer City stadium.
