Asking the audience present at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino to sing along with her, the country crooner says, 'This song has a whole new meaning for us.'
A truck driver carrying staging equipment for Carrie Underwood's Connecticut concert was killed in a fiery crash on Saturday morning, March 20. Later that night when performing at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino, the country star dedicated her "Temporary Home" song to the late driver and his family. On stage, she said, "This song has a whole new meaning for us."
Norwich Bulletin reported that the 27-year-old singer informed the crowd of the accident midway through the show. She then sang the second official single from her third studio album, "Play On". Though managed to keep her poise throughout most of the song, her voice became shaky and tearful toward the end. She reportedly received a standing ovation from the attendees after finishing the song.
The accident that killed one of Carrie's truck driver, took place on Interstate 95 just outside Stonington, Connecticut, WFSB reported. The truck was carrying equipment for her Play On tour. State police said the driver of the truck was burned so badly that dental records would need to be used to confirm his identity. No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.
According to Norwich Bulletin, the former "American Idol" winner kicked off her Saturday night gig with lead single off her "Play On" set, "Cowboy Casanova". During the show, she sang a special duet of "I Told You So" with Randy Travis in addition to a mix of fan favorites that includes "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Last Name". She also delivered her rendition of Tammy Wynette's "Stand by Your Man".
