The host of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' reveals in a statement she has told FOX and the producers she feels the job is not the right fit for her after only one season serving as a judge on 'Idol'.
Another judge is leaving "American Idol". On Thursday night, July 29,
Paula Abdul's replacement
Ellen DeGeneres has made one surprising announcement about her future with the talent search show. She reveals after only one season on the judging panel, she chooses to follow former judge
Simon Cowell and her predecessor Paula in bowing out.
"A couple months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me," the 52-year-old comedienne said in the statement. "I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for."
The host of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" continued on to explain what make it difficult for her if she stays. "I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings," she noted. "I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."
"Idol" creator and executive producer Simon Fuller confirmed Ellen's departure in the same statement. "I loved Ellen's passion for the artists and her nurturing skills. She brought honesty and optimism to our judging panel and I will miss her greatly," he said. FOX entertainment chairman Peter Rice chimed in, "We love Ellen and understand and support her decision to bow out of Idol. We were fortunate to receive the humor, energy and love for talent that she brought to the show."
Ellen's announcement of her exit came just days after The Hollywood Reporter brought up news suggesting FOX Nigel Lythgoe to bring him back to the show. Words are, if Nigel does return, there is a chance that the entire judging panel could be replaced.
