Katy Perry has given
Russell Brand a literally out-of-this-world birthday present with a trip to outer space. According to E! News, the "California Gurls" hitmaker has bought her comedian fiance a seat on Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space venture that is worth for $200,000 as his 35th birthday.
A spokesperson for Virgin Galactic has confirmed the report. Louella Faria, a representative for the space tourism company, stated, "It is true. We are very excited to have him on board." The voyage itself will take the "
Get Him to the Greek" star and other passengers to more than 365,000 feet into the Earth's atmosphere.
Once reaching the atmosphere, the passengers will be allowed to unbuckle and float weightlessly for five minutes before shuttling back to Earth. A space agent for Virgin Galactic detailed, "There will be 17-inch-diameter windows to look out onto. Passengers will be able to view Earth around 800 miles in any direction from space."
Before his departure, Russell will be required to do some preparations, including two to three days of astronaut training. Virgin's representative further revealed once the actor returns to the Earth, he'll get pinned with astronaut wings. "They will pop champagne, give you astronaut wings and give you a party," so the spokesperson claimed.
Though she has bought a seat for her fiance, 25-year-old Katy hasn't purchased any ticket for herself just yet. Nonetheless, E! claimed she has got invited to wait at Virgin Galactic's New Mexico spaceport for Russell's return. Still, a friend close to the "Hot N Cold" singer said, "She should get the seat right next to him."
