Manager Brian Dickens assures the injuries the 'American Idol' alum sustains from her suicide attempt 'are not life threatening', greater than that her father says simply, 'She's doing fine.'
Having been rushed to a North Carolina hospital for an overdose of "aspirin and a sleep aid" on Monday night, August 9,
Fantasia Barrino is reported to be in a stable condition. On Tuesday, August 10, her manager Brian Dickens has released a statement regarding the reported suicide attempt of the former "American Idol" champ.
"Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time," Brian explained in the statement. "Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon." Chiming in on the singer's condition was her father Joseph Barrino. From his home in Greensboro, North Carolina, he told Radar Online, "She's doing fine."
Fantasia was immediately taken to Mercy South Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville, North Carolina after officers responded to a 911 call at 8:43 P.M. on Monday night. According to WBTV, a police report filed with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg precinct detailed that the officers responded to a suicide attempt call at a home on Bevington Place. The singer was said to be found in the closet of the Glynmoor Lakes neighborhood home.
The star of Broadway musical "The Color Purple" was hospitalized after finding out she was named in a divorce filing in which a woman named Paula Cook with her husband Antwaun Cook. In his statement, Brian further mentioned that the singer was "overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention."
Addressing the affair accusation, Brian came out with an explanation, "[Fantasia] knows some of the allegations in Mrs. Cook's complaint are totally false. There are others she strongly doubts. There is plenty she does not know." Though so, he did admit that the 26-year-old and Antwaun "dated on and off for about eleven months".
While being tight-lipped about Paula's claim that there is a sex tape between her husband and Fantasia, her manager defended the singer, who is due to release "Back to Me" album in the U.S. on August 24, by explaining, "Fantasia believed Mr. Cook when he told her he was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it." He added, "Fantasia fell in love with Mr. Cook and believed that he loved her."
In the end, Brian assured fans, "Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured. Fantasia will be stronger, smarter, and better for it. Her work has always inspired her and served as a source of strength." He added, "Fantasia sends her praise to God and her eternal gratitude to her fans, friends, and family."
