The 'Charlie St. Cloud' star is listed among several other potential candidates, including Ryan Reynolds, Shia LaBeouf and Chris Pine, for the role of young CIA agent in the upcoming thriller.
Zac Efron has got a chance to star alongside
Denzel Washington in "
Safe House", Deadline reported. While the "
Unstoppable" actor has been tapped to play a lethal prisoner, the "Charlie St. Cloud" star is said to be included in the list of actors being considered to play a young CIA agent in the thriller.
The 22-year-old is vying for the role along with the likes of
Ryan Reynolds,
Shia LaBeouf,
Chris Pine,
Tom Hardy,
James McAvoy,
Sam Worthington,
Taylor Kitsch,
Garrett Hedlund,
Channing Tatum,
Jake Gyllenhaal and
Chris Hemsworth. Ryan, in particular, has been claimed to be the front-runner for the part. Universal is expected to extend an offer soon.
"Safe House" follows the only surviving agent of an attack on a CIA safe house as he tries to get a lethal prisoner to a second safe house before being taken out by violent forces that want them both dead. "Snabba Cash" director Daniel Espinosa will be making his English-language directorial debut with this Scott Stuber-produced movie.
