Miranda starts her night at the CMAs with two wins for Song of the Year and Video of the Year, while her fiance shares kudo for Musical Event of the Year with Trace Adkins.
The 44th Annual CMA Awards has been kicked off at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday night, November 10, and country couple
Miranda Lambert and
Blake Shelton have come out as two of the winners. Miranda got a head start by nailing two of her nine nominations, while her fiance Blake shared one with
Trace Adkins.
Miranda, who is also celebrating her 27th birthday, won Song of the Year as well as Video of the Year for "The House That Built Me", beating her other nominated single "White Liar". On the red carpet, she gushed, "I got to make country music history, which is what everybody hope's for when they're in this industry, because I had the most nominations out of any female ever, so... I'm having a great day already."
Blake, in the meantime, nailed the Musical Event of the Year kudo for "Hillbilly Bone". Upon receiving his first CMA trophy, he said, "Thank you, fans! Yeah! That's how I like to start the night right there. I can relax and get drunk now! ... If Trace were here - and he's not - I'm sure he would have said something like, 'You better be glad we won this, or I would have whipped somebody's ass.' "
Another winner on the night was
Lady Antebellum. Thanks to their song "Need You Now", the country trio beat Miranda in winning Single of the Year. They also scored Vocal Group of the Year. On the Single acceptance speech, member Charles Kelley credited brother Josh Kelley for their success. "Thank you to my brother ... for making me move to Nashville six years ago," he said.
Zac Brown Band took home New Artist of the Year title. They came triumphant over fellow nominees such as
Luke Bryan, Easton Corbin, Jerrod Niemann and
Chris Young. Additionally, guitarist Mac McAnally who is known for his work with
Kenny Chesney and
Jimmy Buffett, nailed Musician of the Year award for third consecutive time.
