In an interview with Rachael Ray, Hugdens admits that she has stayed in the homeless shelter for two weeks to get into her character in the Ron Krauss-directed film.
Vanessa Hudgens has opened up about what she did to prepare for her upcoming film "
Gimme Shelter". In an interview taped for the February 10 episode of "Rachael Ray", the 23-year-old actress revealed that she stayed in a homeless shelter for two weeks before filming the flick.
"For Gimme Shelter, my character ends up at this pregnant, homeless teen shelter that's actually ran in New Jersey by a woman and I actually went and stayed in the shelter for two weeks before I started filming," she said. "So I mean like, I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids, so I think that it's really interesting because you find so much more about yourself."
Talking further about her troubled character, Hudgens said, "[
Rosario Dawson and I] look so messed up in this movie." The former flame of
Zac Efron added, "I actually cut my own hair for this movie. I did that to myself, yes I did."
In "Gimme Shelter", Hudgens plays a pregnant teenager named Agnes "Apple" Bailey who leaves her abusive mother in order to seek out her biological father. When Agnes finally finds him, he takes her in but then kicks her out after knowing that she refuses to abort her unborn baby.
Joining Hudgens in the drama film are "
Furry Vengeance" actor
Brendan Fraser and "
Zookeeper" actress Rosario Dawson who star as her parents. The release date of the Ron Krauss-directed film has yet to be announced.
