When asked to respond to the infamous incident during a chat on 'Today' show, the 'Hairspray' actor admits that he never 'had a pocket-checking policy prior to going onto the red carpet before.'
Zac Efron has finally weighed in on his "condom-dropping" mishap at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Lorax". When discussing the animated movie on the "Today" show Thursday morning, March 1, the heartthrob was asked by host Matt Lauer to comment on the headline-grabbing incident. Though he looked a bit hesitant to answer, the actor did state that the little incident was "a great message" to youngsters.
The chat began as Matt broached the touchy topic as joking, "Your name brought a lot of attention to this role and this movie, and there's something else that brought a lot of attention to this movie recently, Zac, at the premiere." He asked, "Do you want to take me through it?"
Looking nervous, the 24-year-old actor said, "I don't want it take you through it." Nonetheless, Matt continued to press him by asking, "Do you want to give me a hint as what happened? You dropped something on the red carpet?"
A blushing Zac then answered reluctantly, "I did. I never had a pocket-checking policy prior to going onto the red carpet before." The ex-boyfriend of Vanessa Hudgens added, "But now we fully instated one. Prior to going on the red carpet."
As Matt went on to a direct question whether Zac dropped a condom or not, the "Hairspray" star admitted, "Yeah. It was really hard for you to say." The host then joked that the mishap has given the actor a credit and that it's "better to be safe than sorry." Zac replied, "It's a great message, to add to the many messages in the film."
Zac was caught on video tape accidentally dropping what seemed to be a condom on the red carpet of "The Lorax" special screening last Sunday, February 19. Looking embarrassed, the hunky actor was spotted mouthing the words "Oh my God!" after quickly picking up the condom and putting it back in his pocket.
