Defeating Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, the 'Rolling in the Deep' hitmaker also snatches the Top Female Artist prize in addition to 11 other kudos.
Adele became the biggest winner at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards held on Sunday, May 20. Though she could not attend the awards show, the "Someone Like You" hitmaker successfully collected a total of 12 gongs from her 18 nominations. Among the kudos she nailed, the British singer won the coveted Top Artist prize.
Defeating the likes of
Lady GaGa,
Nicki Minaj,
Katy Perry and
Rihanna, Adele also grabbed the Top Female Artist award. She additionally pocketed the kudos for Top Pop Artist, Top Pop Album, Top Digital Songs Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist among others.
Trailing behind the "Rolling in the Deep" chanteuse were
LMFAO with seven awards, including Top Duo/Group, Top Digital Song and Top Dance Song. The uncle-nephew duo themselves kicked off the show with an upbeat medley of their club-banger numbers, "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy And I Know It."
Lil Wayne, who was also absent at the event, won the Top Male Artist nod in addition to winning the prizes for Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Album and Top R&B Song for his hit "Motivation". Wiz Khalifa was named the Top New Artist, while
Chris Brown was dubbed the Top R&B Artist of the year.
Justin Bieber, meanwhile, took home the Top Social Artist kudo.
Other winners at the annual event included
Coldplay with four awards, GaGa,
Casting Crowns and
Jason Aldean with two nods apiece, as well as
Rihanna,
Shakira, Nicki Minaj and
Beyonce Knowles with one each.
As for the special awards, Katy Perry received the Spotlight Award,
Taylor Swift was named the Woman of the Year, and
Stevie Wonder won the Billboard Music Icon Award. Late diva
Whitney Houston was honored with Millenium Award.

Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, this year's Billboard Music Awards took place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena. Among the performers at the star-studded event were
